The National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) is governed by the Ministry of Education, implemented through the Board of Apprentice Training (BOAT) / Board of Practical Training (BOPT). The scheme is designed to provide practical industry exposure to technically qualified youth, particularly diploma holders and graduates.

Applicability:

  • Applicable to establishments having 30 or more employees
  • Mandatory compliance under the Apprenticeship Act

Stipulated Apprentice Headcount:

  • Apprentice engagement as per norms defined under the Apprenticeship Act and BOAT guidelines

Eligibility & Qualification:

  • Eligible candidates include:
    • Diploma holders
    • Graduates (Engineering / Non-Engineering as applicable)

Minimum Stipend Structure (INR):

  • Diploma – ₹10,900
  • Graduate – ₹12,300

  • Apprentices are engaged strictly for training purposes
  • No obligation to provide statutory employee benefits such as PF, ESIC, Bonus, etc.
  • Substantial workforce cost optimization for employers

Government Reimbursement:

  • Government reimburses 50% of the stipend or ₹4,500 per apprentice per month, whichever is lower

CSR Benefit:

  • Expenditure incurred on apprenticeship training can be considered under CSR activities, helping organizations align skilling initiatives with social impact objectives
